Yolonda Ellis

Yolonda Lucas Ellis, age 84, of Owenton, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood.Born April 23, 1933 in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Orsburn Lucas and the widow of Walker T. Ellis.  She was also preceded in death by her son Roger Ellis, her brother in law, Dale Walker and a half sister Evelyn Lucas.  Yolonda spent a lifetime as a caregiver in many roles. She worked for over 38 years feeding children in the Owen County Elementary School cafeteria.  She was one of the first sworn members of the Owen County Volunteer Fire Department; she joined along side her husband and became a certified fire fighter (9449) but also served as the department 'Mom' for most of her career there.  She was a devoted member of Owenton First Christian Church and a valuable volunteer at the Owenton Manor and the Owen County Clothing Center.  She was also selected as Mother of the Year.She is survived by her son, Rodney (Mary Amos) Ellis; her grandson, Ethan Ellis and his mother Toni; her sister, Brenda Walker and nephew and niece, John Walker and Gina (Thomas) Hendren.  Also surviving are her grand furbabies, Sallie, Saber and Miss Kitty.McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends at the Owenton First Christian Church on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 9 - 11am.  Funeral services will follow at 11am with Bro. Greg Guy presiding.  Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery with Fire Fighter's Honors.  Memorial Contributions may be made to Owenton First Christian Church Children's Ministry.
