William Brown McGibney, age 78 of Owenton, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at his home following an extended illness.
Born April 27, 1940, in Versailles, KY he was the son of the late William Franklin and Sara Lilly Brown McGibney. He was a graduate of Clayton High School in St. Louis, MO where he lettered in football, track and music. As a teen he was a member of the Columbus Boys Choir. He continued his education at Georgetown College where he played football and received his bachelors in music education. From there, he went on to receive his masters degree, in church music, at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. His life was devoted to ministry, his fist position being held at the young age of 14 as minister of music in St. Louis. He served 10 different churches in lifetime, his most fruitful position being at Parkwood Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC. He also served as a professor of music at Clear Creek Baptist College, beside his wife, for 12 years. He was very proud of his stateside mission work with youth and children's choirs.
Bro. McGibney is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha McMullen McGibney; his children, BJ (Lisa) McGibney, Rheba (Alan) Capps and Daniel (Jennie) McGibney and his four grandchildren, William and Matthew McGibney and Thomas and Kayla Capps.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 11am to 1pm. Funeral services will follow t 1 pm with Bro. Brad Banks presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to Owenton First Baptist, Gideons or American Bible Society.
