Bro. Wilbert Wesley “Bob” Lowe, Jr., age 77, of Owenton passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the home of his daughter. Born May 12, 1933, in Louisville, he was the son of the late Wilbert Wesley Lowe, Sr. and Ruth Louise Hartell Lowe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary June Lowe; sons, Robert Lowe and Tommy Patton and an infant sister, Alice Lowe. Bro. Lowe was a member and past minister at Salem Baptist Church. He was a minister for over 33 years. Before becoming a minister he worked for 17 years for Schinley/Louisville Cooper making barrels. He was the past president of the Louisville AFLCIO and Past Third President for the National AFLCIO. He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge. He also proudly served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Boxer as a Skippers Mate and a Cook. Survivors include his children, Perry Wesley Lowe of Georgetown, Wilbert Wesley Lowe, III of Carrollton and Josie Hazlett of Monterey; five brothers, Walter, Kenny, Charlie, Paul and Ronnie Lowe; six sisters, Shirley App, Barbara Bryant, Donna Ottman, Joyce Lowe, Marcella Moran and Ruth Simpson; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and three expected great-great grandchildren. McDonald & New Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Wednesday, January 5th from 11am to 2pm. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Bro. Charles Lowe presiding. Burial will be in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home for expenses.
