Washington "Cig" Atha, Jr., age 71, of Monterey, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013 at the New Horizons Medical Center. Born March 4, 1942 in Monterey, KY, he was the son of the late Washington Atha, Sr. and Nola New Atha and was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Cook Atha and his brother, Jess Atha. "Cig" work in Maintenance for Union Underwear and Fruit of the Loom as well as working construction. He was a member of the Old Cedar Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, boating and fishing. He was an avid UK Wildcat fan, a dog lover and had a deep love for music, dancing, playing the guitar and favored bluegrass music. Surviving are his children, Ray (Gina) Jesse of Frankfort, Dana Burke of Frankfort and Evelyn (Glenn) Minch of Owenton; his special friend, Diane Tingle; his brother, Bob Atha of Frankfort; his sister, Viola Haydon of Shelbyville; two grandchildren, Kirby Dale Rowland and Leslie Alexandra Jesse and one great grand daughter, Danielle Grace Rowland. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Thursday, October 24 from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday with Bro. James Bondurant presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monterey Cemetery.
