Warren G. "Bud" Hornsby, Jr., age 81, of Owenton, KY, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, in Dayton, OH. Born on August 21, 1943, in Oneida, KY, he was the son of the late Warren Hornsby, Sr., and Beatrice Hampton Dixon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Milliron.
Bud proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Constellation, an experience that instilled in him a lifelong sense of discipline and adventure. Following his service, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from NKU and spent many years inspiring students as a dedicated science teacher. After retiring from teaching, Bud spent many more years selling vehicles at Jeff Wyler Honda in Florence, KY.
A true technology enthusiast, Bud embraced every innovation with curiosity and enthusiasm. Whether mastering the latest gadgets, editing photos, or keeping up with his Apple Watch, he was always eager to learn and explore. Well into his late 70s, he could often be found riding his Segway through Florence, a testament to his youthful spirit.
His greatest passion was capturing the beauty of Owen County from above, flying his drone to take breathtaking photos and videos of the countryside he loved so much. He was an avid reader who never left home without his Kindle, always ready to immerse himself in a western, mystery, or sci-fi novel.
Bud will be deeply missed by his children, Warren (Meg) Hornsby, III, Karen (Tom) Federle, and Sharon (Clay) James; his brother, Wade Hornsby; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends, for a memorial gathering, at the Main Street location on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from Noon until 2 pm. Memorial Services will follow at 2 pm with Bro John Ashcraft officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will occur on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
