Vicki Barbara Walker Turner, was born March 6, 1946 to Charles Scott and Martha Palmer Walker Shandrick. She was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky and moved to Owen County with her daughters and husband William (Bill) Turner in 1972 where she remained until she left her broken earthly body behind and gained her eternal reward on January 30th, 2022.
Vicki was preceded in death by her mother, father, half-sibling Michael Maitland and a childhood friend Patricia Karsner Smoot. She is survived by her former husband William (Bill) Turner who remained an integral part of her life (it was complicated), daughters Heidi (Rusty) Williams, and Hilari (Terry) Gentry, grandchildren Kelsey (Brian) Gognat, Sawyer (Tayler) Williams, Carson Williams, Griffin Gentry, great-grandchildren Maddox and Paxton Gognat and another on the way, half-sisters Kathryn Rountree and Jackie Graves. She is also survived by her cousins Georgia Palmer and Dick Palmer as well as her close friend Barbara Craigmyle whom she loved like a sister.
Vicki had been a nurse for 40 years and had a passion for mentoring and teaching those new to the nursing field or even those seasoned nurses whom she felt could stand to learn a thing or two. She enjoyed acting in plays and such when the rare opportunity arose. She was an avid reader and member of the Elk Creek Book Club as well as some through the public library which she frequented often. She often read multiple books at the same time. How she could keep up with multiple storylines at the same time was a mystery to her family. She enjoyed not only playing trivia and word games but soundly beating any opponent brave enough to challenge her. She was the reigning champ of both Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble amongst the family and remained undefeated by winning her last trivia game Christmas Eve against the entire family. In addition to trivia and word games, Vicki could play a mean game of poker and often won the tournaments she entered. Vicki enjoyed celebrating life in a variety of ways including singing and dancing when she was able to move freely. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and often said, "Even if you all were not my family I would enjoy being with you". She was quick-witted, wise, and genuinely cared about others.
She will be missed but her friends and family are at peace knowing she has been made whole again and that we will join her in eternity one day.
A brief memorial led by Brother Frank Repper will be held Sunday, February 6, 2022, at 2:00 at First Baptist Church in Owenton with a meal and fellowship afterward in the Fellowship Hall. It was Vicki's wish that her friends and loved ones would get together and enjoy each other's company and share in celebrating her life. Memorial contributions can be made to Owen County Friends of Animals Inc. (founded by her daughter) by mail at P.O. Box 234, Owenton, KY 40359 or via PayPal to ocfanimals@gmail.com
