Vernon Clay Smoot

Vernon Clay Smoot, age 74, of Owenton, passed away July 17, 2017 at his home.Born July 17, 1943 in the Greenup community of Owen County, he was the son of the late Carl and Margaret Katherine Dunavent Smoot.  He was preceded by his brothers, Bobby Glenn Smoot and David Smoot.  Vernon was a heavy equipment operator for the State Highway Department.  He also enjoyed working on old cars.Surviving are his wife, Pat Dews Smoot; his daughter Darla Howlett; grandchildren, Megan and AJ Howlett and his brothers, Lester and Jerry Smoot.McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 4-8pm.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11am with Bro.David "Milkweed" Wotier presiding.  Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators (formerly Hospice of the Bluegrass)
