Charles "Tommy" Sharp, age 69, of Owenton went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2016 surrounded by his wife and children, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Florence. Born November 9, 1946, in Scott County, he was the son of the late Dewey and Ida Belle Mefford Sharp and was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Marie Sharp and granddaughters, Grace Elizabeth Rogers and Faith Webster Cope. He served his country in the United States Army as a tank operator. He made his life as a tool and die operator in a factory, but loved farming and traveling with his family. He was a retired member of the Owen County Search and Rescue Squad and the Owen County Volunteer Fire Department. His family was his life, enjoying weekend camping and cookouts with his grandchildren. He was an avid prankster and always made sure everyone had a good time when he was around. He served his church, Mussel Shoals Baptist as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and former music leader. Tommy will be missed by the love of his life, Rachel Acree Sharp. They married on January 15, 1971. Also surviving are his best friend and constanst companion, his dog Trouble; his children, Lee McIntosh, Lynn Underwood, Cheryll (Gary) Meyer and Lisa (Joshua) Rogers; his grandchildren, Zach and Jacob Cope, Katie Thomas, Ashley Underwood, Chris (Ashley) Meyer, Cale and Abram Handy and Grayson Rogers; his great grandchildren, Landen and Rylie Meyer, Tucker Thomas, Claira and Raylan Cope and Makenzie Dempsey and his siblings, Jimmy, Danny and Billy Sharp and Brenda Power. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 13th, at the Mussel Shoals Baptist Church from 11am until 3pm. Funeral services will follow at 3pm with Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier presiding. Burial will be in the Mussel Shoals Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mussel Shoals Baptist Church.
