Todd Douglas O'Banion

Todd Douglas O'Banion, age 56, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019 at his home.

Born October 9, 1962, in Frankfort, KY, he was the son of the late Robert Walker "Bobby" O'Banion and Iona Heightchew O'Banion, who survives.  Todd was raised in the Greenup community and was a graduate of Owen County High School. As a young man he enjoyed raising animals and made pets of lambs, rabbits, goats and bottle fed calves. Raising calves helped him save money to attend the University of Kentucky where he earned is Bachelor of Arts in Geography and History and his Master of Arts in Secondary Education and Teaching.  Todd was a lifelong learner and went on to earn his doctorate degree. He served in education for many years, in several districts, before retiring from Jefferson County Public Schools as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Information Officer. He was also the Executive Director of the Kentucky Association of School Business Officials.  He earned a Fullbright Scholarship that allowed him to live and teach in England for a year. Todd's favorite pastime was travel, most recently returning from Chile. He made it to almost every continent, enjoying Australia, Iceland, and especially Alaska with his mother.

Todd will be missed by his mother, Iona O'Banion and his beloved terrier, Angus.   He also leaves behind a host of extended family and adored friends.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 4 - 8pm. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm with Bro. David "Milkweeed" Wotier presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to the Owen County Friends of Animals.
