S.J. Smith

S.J. Smith, age 81, of Gratz, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.Born August 12, 1935 in Owen County, he was the son of the late Sim and Lula Wilhoite Smith and was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Tillett Smith and his sisters, Mae Walker and Charlotte Burke.  S.J. was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Gratz 7th Day Adventist Church.Surviving are his daughters, Debbie Raisor, Sharon Martin and Pam Kamunen; his grandchildren, Jeremy Goodrich, Jessica Ferguson, Clinton Cook, Amanda Perkins and Travis Heightchew; thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.  Also surviving are his siblings, Mary Bramblett, Harold Smith, Glenna Long, Ray Smith, Linda New, Brenda Miller, Larry Smith, Judy Smith and David Smith.McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 11am until 2pm.  Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Bro. Len Powell presiding.  Burial will be in the the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Gratz Seventh Day Adventist Church
