Shirley Masters True

Shirley Ethel Masters True, age 86, of Glencoe, KY, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2023, at her residence in Poplar Grove.

Born July 24, 1937, in Woodford County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Shirley Walker and Ethel Vera Phillips Masters. She was the widow of Glen Allen True and was preceded in death by her siblings Lloyd Gene Masters, Mary Marjorie Walls, Opal Nadine Wallace, and Grace Evelyn Yancey. Shirley was a member of the Poplar Grove Baptist Church where she spent many years as a Trustee, teaching Sunday school, decorating for holidays, and spending time visiting the elderly. She loved all the children at church and was known for giving out candy to them every Sunday. Along with her husband of 64 years, she operated a dairy and tobacco farm. She loved flowers and could often be seen out in the yard caring for them. Shirley was an avid bargain hunter and never missed an opportunity to visit a Flea Market, yard sale or thrift store in search of treasures. She was a collector of many things, including red fox items. Shirley loved animals and enjoyed feeding the birds at her back door every morning. She had a Mockingbird (Tilly) and Meadowlark (Specks), who would chirp to her while waiting for their treats. She enjoyed the company of her pet cat, Kit-Kat who provided companionship in her later years.

Shirley dearly loved her family and grandchildren. She will be missed by her daughters, Teresa "Terry" (Jim) Oppold, Jacquelyn "Jackie" (John) McDaniel, Danette "Dani" True (Bradley Morrison); grandchildren Adam Oppold, Clayton McDaniel, Eleanore McDaniel; sister, Sue Anne (Dennis) O'Connor; many nieces and nephews; her church family/friends and her beloved cat.

New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements, services will be held at the Poplar Grove Baptist Church on Friday, September 29, 2023 with visitation at 10:00 am, and the funeral service scheduled at 11:00 am, conducted by Brother Tom Hall. Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life and luncheon.
