Leonard Scott Hardin July 20, 1937 - March 23, 2011, resident of Springfield, Kentucky passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Scott was born in Asheville, North Carolina to William David and Josephine Webb Hardin. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles William and James Voris Hardin. He was the beloved husband to Joyce Hill Smith Hardin for 51 years. He will forever be remembered by his four sons, Dr. David S. Hardin (Lori) of Cedar Rapids IA; Carl T. Hardin (Clare) of Encinitas CA; Michael L. Hardin (Patricia) of London, KY and Dr. Frederick J. Hardin (Brittany) of Prospect, KY. Scott was also dearly admired by his six grandchildren; Dustin, Sam, Anna, Eric, Andrew and Kendra along with his niece Teresa Fisher and nephew William David Hardin. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1959 where he earned a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and then continued his education at Washington State University where he earned his Masters degree. Scott loved his profession and worked for over 50 years as a land surveyor and engineer building countless roads and bridges all across the state of Kentucky. He was especially proud of his work designing the "Footprints" bridge for the city of Springfield, which now bears his name in recognition of his life's work. He was a brilliant and skilled engineer who was admired and sought after by many for his precise eye for detail and uncanny problem- solving ability. Over the past several years, Scott found great satisfaction and fulfillment in mentoring C.W. Murphy to take his place behind the transit. Scott was a devoted member of The Green River Chapter of KAPS, The Washington County Health Association and Monterey Baptist Church. He also loved his dog Buffy and a stray cat named Claw-dia he so proudly turned into his daily companion. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music as well as tinkering with his antique cars and attending swap meets with his longtime friend, Warren Bryant. Scott left a lasting impression on many people's lives with his kindness, wisdom and wit. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, March 26th, at 2 pm at McDonald and New Funeral Home at 202 N. Main Street Owenton, KY 40359. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4-8pm at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers that all donations are sent to the Owen County Historical Society, at 206 N. Main Street Owenton, KY40359 in Scott's honor.
