Sam Taylor

Samuel Joseph Taylor, III, age 81, of Owenton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Baptist Healthcare in Lexington.

Born July 12, 1942, in Ft. Meyers, FL, he was the son of the late S.J. and Orpha Lee Hill Taylor. He was preceded in death by his son, Samuel "Little Sam" Taylor, and his sister, Shirley Swindall.  Sam, as he was known to most, was a retired mechanical engineer who worked for various companies in Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, and Kentucky. He was passionate about motorcycles, preferring a Harley or Triumph, and made quick friends from that passion when he moved to Kentucky.  They soon became a 'gang' of 6 couples, known as the KY Eagles, who enjoyed stopping DQ during their rides. He was an active Owen County Public Library Board member, who loved reading, research, and music, especially Pink Floyd. Sam was a beloved member of Owenton First Christian Church where he also served on the board. One of his favorite pastimes was spoiling his 'kids', Addison, Emersyn, Raylan, Ruth Ellen, Ripp, and  Reagan.

Sam will be missed by his wife, Carol Ann Bush Taylor; in-laws, Wallace & Ann Bush; sons, Joe Taylor of Milbrook, AL, Matt (Jenny) Taylor of Montgomery, AL, John Brian (Lisa) Ayres of Louisville, KY, and James Phillip (Mariah) Keith of Owenton, KY; eleven grandchildren including Addison & Emersyn Ayres and Raylan, Ruth Ellen, and Ripp Keith; two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Linda Black of Lake City, FL and Augusta Belle Previc of Gainesville, FL.

New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at Owenton First Christian Church on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 11 am until 1 pm.  Memorial services will follow at 1 pm with Bro. Bob Franz presiding.  Memorial contributions may be made to either Owenton First Christian Church or Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice.
