Samuel Herbert "Sam" Riley, age 87, of Owenton, passed away at his home on Friday, February 4, 2022.
Born October 19, 1934, in Harlan, KY, he was the son of the late Harold Clyde and Louise Myers Riley. Sam proudly served his country in the United States Army Infantry during the Korean War. He was retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Fishery Division. This was a perfect role for him as he loved hunting, fishing, boating, and being outdoors. He was a talented gunsmith who enjoyed antiquing and traveling. Sam rarely met a stranger and enjoyed regaling others with his storytelling. He was a member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church and supported various organizations including the NRA.
He will be missed by his wife, Doris Ann Baldwin Riley, whom he married on May 10, 1958; his children, Sheila Riley, Hines Riley, and Celia Wright; his grandchildren, Olivia Karsner, Logan Riley, and Cody Karsner; as well as special family friends, Marc Crumpton and Tina Eades.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later time. If you would like to honor Sam's memory, contributions are suggested to Owen County Friends of Animals , in lieu of flowers.
