Roy Dalton Mertz, Dvm

Dr. Roy Dalton Mertz, age 58, of Owenton, passed away Friday, July 10, 2020, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born December 26, 1961, in Henry County, KY, he was the son of the late Almon Lloyd and Jo Ella Wolfe Mertz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Blanchard Mertz. Dr. Mertz was a graduate of Woodford County High School, attended Pre-Vet school at the University of Kentucky, and graduated from Auburn University, College of Veterinary Medicine. He owned and operated the Owen County Animal Clinic for over 32 years and enjoyed playing cards, especially with his buddies at McDonald's.

Roy is survived by his pride and joy, his son, Dalton Mertz; his sister, Beverly (Dana) Strader Swift of Tulsa, OK; his niece, Katie Clark; nephew, Jake Strader; his long-time friends and vet techs, Ashley Roberts and Kelly Richards.  He is also survived by his faithful companions, his dogs, Blue, Fluff, and Snickers.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. A private family interment will be held. To honor Dr. Mertz's memory, memorial contributions are suggested to the Owen County Friends of Animals.
