Rodney Bond Smith

Rodney Bond Smith, age 57, of Florence, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 at the home of his parents. Born August 17, 1957, in Owenton, he was a former Machinist for Sach's Automotive in Florence, a member of the Sparta Christian Church and the Union Masonic Lodge #304. He was a graduate of Gallatin County High School where he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He attended the Connecticut School of Broadcasting and was a member of the KY Civil War Historical Society. Rodney was also a car enthusiast and loved working on his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. Surviving are his parents, Forrest and Mary Lou Smith of Sparta; his wife, Paula Smith of Florence; his mother and father in law, Phyllis and Glenn Baker of Alabama; his stepsons, Andrew Workman of Florence and Nathan (fiancee, Katie) Workman of Clermont County, OH; his brother, Larry (Bonnie) Smith and nephew Josh Smith of Independence. Also surviving is his beloved dog, Scooter. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Tuesday, January 13th from 10am until 1pm. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with burial in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ky Civil War Historical Society.
