Roberta Selby Ball

Roberta Selby Ball, 97, of Wheatley, passed away Friday, August 28, 2009 at the Green Valley Health and Rehab Center in Carrollton. Born September 12, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Gertrude Selby. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert Henry Ball. Also preceding her in death were three sisters: Ruth Dorothy, and Helen; a twin brother: Bob, two nieces and one nephew. Roberta graduated from Holmes High School in 1929 and began working for the Hatfield Coal Company. After marriage, she became a stay-home mother to her two sons. In 1963 she returned to work as secretary at Dixie Heights High School until retirement in 1976. Upon retirement, she and Bob moved back to the family farm in Owen County. She and Bob were active members of the Dallasburg Baptist Church. She first accepted Christ at the Latonia Baptist Church. She and Bob were active members until retirement. Roberta took an active role in Sunday school, Training Union and Choir. Her passion was always with missions and serving in the WMU in both the local church and on the Associational Level. She is survived by her sons, James Henry (Jane) Ball of Carrollton and Douglas Robert (Rita) Ball of Wheatley; four grandchildren, Brian Ball (Barbie) of Carrollton, Eric Ball (Lynn) of LaGrange, Jennifer Gravitt (Scott) of Jacksonville Fl, and Sarah David (Matthew) of Wheatley. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, Laura, Ashley, Brian James, Sydney, Lilly and Emily. Pallbearers will be: Brian Ball, Eric Ball, Matthew David, Keenan Suter, Terry Dezarn, Jackie Forsee, Jerry Wainscott, and Jimmy Wainscott. Serving as Honorary pallbearer will be Brian James Ball. McDonald & New Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Monday, August 31, 2009 from 4-8pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11am Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery with Bro. Matt Dye presiding and Jane Ball - Pianist. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dallasburg Baptist Church.
