Robert Lee Mills Jr., age 93, of Owenton, KY, passed away December 21, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospice In Edgewood surrounded by his family.
Born May 4, 1928, in Dewitt in Knox County, KY, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Effie Mills. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; John A., Virgil, Chester, T.J, and Ben and his sister Virginia. He graduated from Knox County Central High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. Bob was a member of 1st United Methodist Church and was very active in Church of the Nazarene for many years. Robert and Wanda created a home where love was the central theme. They raised their five children to believe they had the ability to achieve anything they desired. Robert was a loving father and husband. He was a Godly man and a wonderful example of being a Christian, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was well known and liked for his character. Bob barbered for many years in Connersville, Indiana, prior to moving to Kentucky to be closer to family. His passion for gardening and the outdoors was evident to everyone around him. He was very proud of his family and always supported them.
He will be missed greatly by his wife of 69 years, Wanda Moore Mills; his children, Virgil (Patti) Mills, Dan (Barbara) Mills, Diana (Dan) O’Toole, Paul (Terri) Mills, and Robert (Bonny) Mills, III; his grandchildren, Janelle Esposito, Jennifer (Brad) Szink, Julie (Chris) Edwards, David (Celeste) O’Toole, Daniel (Kendall) O’Toole, Dennis O’Toole, Clinton (Bethany) Mills, Brandon (Megan) Mills, Wyatt (Priscilla) Mills, Dylan (Dana) Mills, Spencer Mills, Robert ‘Lee’ (Maddy) Mills, IV, Lydia Mills, Matthew Mills, and Ben Mills; great-grandchildren, Emily Esposito, Bella Esposito, Joseph Esposito, Alania Szink, Ava Edwards, Lyla Edwards, Jaclyn O’Toole, David O’Toole, Will O’Toole, Reese O’Toole, Beckham O’Toole, Aubree Mills, and Colt Mills. Also, surviving are his sisters, Della Weis, and Eula Downey, in-laws, Helen Jarnigan, Jean Doulen, and George and Glenda Tuttle; his sisters-in-law, Rosalie Moore and Ivy Mills, as well as numerous nieces and nephews with many friends and relatives. He loved you all.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 5 PM to 8 PM for visitation. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the 1st Methodist Church at 12PM with Rev. Virgil R. Mills presiding. Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of St. Elizabeth.
