Robert Clarence Carter, age 86, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort, Ky.
Robert was born October 27, 1938 to the late Robert and Zettie Stewart Carter. Robert began working at the local drug stores in Owenton, first operating as Simpson and Kelly and later, Morgan and Thomas. He began working for the Highway Department for the state and then retired from the Division of Drivers Licensing after 27 years of service. After retirement, Robert continued to work as a Walmart greeter for 10 years. Robert was a big fan of all things basketball and attended the Sweet 16 each year as well as being the timer for the Owen County Boys Basketball Team. He also found joy in organizing class reunions and was the treasurer for the James family reunions for 50 years. In his free time, Robert loved to travel to Gatlinburg with his family and thoroughly enjoyed the opera. Above all, he was a devoted family man and was lovingly called Pop-Pop by his grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
Robert will be missed by his loving wife, Bonnie Carter; his children, Ruth (Dennis) Lamphier, Heather Jennings, Chester Ferguson; 10 grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Edward "Coke" Baldwin.
New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held at the Main Street location on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 12 pm until 2:00pm. Funeral services will follow at 2:00pm with Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Carter family.
