R.O. Ball, Jr.

R.O. Ball, Jr., 80, of New Liberty, passed away Thursday, May 6th on his family farm which had been in his family for 102 years. Born August 8, 1929, in New Liberty, he was the son of the late Raymond Oscar and Ruth Duvall Ball. Jr. was a dairy, tobacco and cattle farmer. He was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church where he was a former treasurer, usher, messenger to the Owen County Baptist Association and Sunday school superintendent; he currently attended Owenton First Baptist Church. As a farmer, he was awarded the Quality Producer Award by Milk Marketing Inc in 1989 and in 2000 the Owen County Farm Family Pride award. Jr. also served his country, for two years, in the Army as a tank mechanic, during the Korean conflict. Fourteen months of his service time was in Germany. He is survived by his wife Lue Ree Hamilton Ball whom he married on June 24, 1955 at the Dallasburg Baptist Church; his son James Douglas (Marquita) Ball of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Kimberly Lane Ball of Louisville and Jill Rae (Randolph) Wilson of Lexington; three grandchildren, Rachel Ann and Kendra Nicole Ball and Lenna Hamilton Wilson; two step grandsons, Randolph Chamberlain Wilson, IV and Langston Alexander Wilson; his aunt, Margaret McCowen of Cleveland, OH. He is also survived by a host of cousins and friends. Arrangements are being handled by McDonald & New Funeral Homes. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location, Sunday, May 9th, from 2-7pm. Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday with Bro. David “Milkweed” Wotier and Bro. Brad Banks officiating. Burial will be in the Wheatley Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Owen County Library or Charity of Choice.
