Ray Clifford Perkins, Jr., born on September 30, 1951, in Frankfort, Kentucky, passed away at the age of 74 on March 14, 2026, in Owenton, Kentucky. He was a lifelong scientist dedicated to research, with a deep passion for learning and discovery.

Ray was well known for his warm personality and generous spirit. He loved listening to music and playing the guitar, and he took great joy in teaching others how to play. Beyond his musical talents, he was an accomplished carpenter, skilled in woodworking and restoring furniture and pianos. His hands brought beauty and function to many treasured items. Ray was also an excellent cook, and his homemade bread and strawberry cake were favorites that will be deeply missed by all who enjoyed them.

He had a welcoming heart and a home always open to family and friends alike. Ray especially loved his grandchildren and cherished spending time with them. An avid traveler, he explored many places around the world, including China, Canada, several parts of Europe, Australia, and Hawaii.

Ray is survived by his wife, Teresa “Teri” Spicer Perkins, whom he married on August 23, 1970. He leaves behind his daughters, Sarah-Ellen (Chris) Leonard and Rachel Fint (Bryan Elliott), along with his beloved grandchildren: Vincent Leonard, Allie Fint, Sean Fint, and Caitlin Fint. He was also a proud bonus grandfather to Austin, Bryan Jr., Logan, Wyatt, Aiden, Madi, Sheala, Josh, Sophia, and Dream. Ray’s siblings also survive: Kenny (Beth) Perkins, Bobby (Cheryl) Perkins, Larry Perkins, Jeff (Valerie) Perkins, Roger Perkins, and Lori (Chris) England.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.C. and Nannie Elanor Ashcraft Perkins.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Ray’s life will take place on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at New Funeral Homes, located at 202 N. Main Street, in Owenton, KY 40359. This gathering will be a time for all who knew him to remember his kindness, talents, and the many ways he touched their lives.

Ray will be remembered as a man who loved music, craftsmanship, family, and adventure. His gentle spirit and generous heart left a lasting imprint on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
