Pete Dawson

August 21, 1932 — March 28, 2025

R.C. “Pete” Dawson went home to be with Jesus on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born on August 21, 1932 to the late Charles R. and Mary C. Dawson, and his stepmother, Norma Dawson. Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Dawson, and their infant daughter.

Pete grew up on Fairview Road, where he was raised by his grandparents, Charlie and Creola Howard Dawson, along with his uncles, who were like brothers to him. He worked on the family farm and developed a deep love for the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He fondly remembered the many fishing trips he took with friends, always returning with stories to share.

He was a Korean War Veteran of the US Army, where he proudly served. He was able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Pete was one of the first employees hired when the Lockport Quarry began operations. He worked in construction with R.C. Durr Company, and in the later years of his career, Pete and Doris opened Dawson’s Garage and Upholstery in Pleasant Home.

Pete’s love for the outdoors was immense, but his love for God, his family, and his friends was even greater. Pete was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and the Owen Lodge 128 F & AM. He was a devoted husband to his late wife Doris Dawson, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his companion, Doris Kincaid, his brother, Raymond Lee (Diana) Dawson, his sister-in-law, Billie Jo Williams, and his brother-in-law, Harry Lee Roberts. He also leaves behind his children, Sharon (Bill) Woods, Karen Karsner, and Dede (Mike) Grisham, along with his grandchildren: Jason (Renee) Woods, Jeremy (Sarah) Woods, Amber (Sarah) Wagers, Meagan (Matt) Greenlee, Bryan (Holly) Callaghan, and Kara (John) Criswell. Pete was also the proud great-grandfather of Damien, Ava, Luna, Haley, Natalie, Kindra, Kenneth, Allison, Madison, Janson, Leilah, Kingston, Brynlee, Brydger, Silas, Callie, and Jeremiah.

He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Tricia, Devon, Aron, Norman, Marilyn, Tony, Libby, and Chris. Pete’s memory will be cherished, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Pleasant Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 from 11 am until 2 pm.  Funeral services will follow at 2 pm with Bro. Dale Griggs, Bro. Dale Adkins, and Bro.
