Pauline Thomas Shelton, affectionately called “Mamaw” or “Ma-ene” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Born May 2, 1931, Pauline lived in Owen County, KY, her entire life as a sixth-generation Kentuckian and a fifth-generation Owen Countian. She was a devoted Christian and a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Owenton. She was a retired farmer and homemaker. Her hobbies included reading and watching the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, Kentucky basketball and football, and Jeopardy. But Pauline was most famous for her expertise in the kitchen, in which she cooked and baked for family and friends since she was six years old in 1937. Her most famous recipes include her fried chicken tenders, cornbread, mashed potatoes, jam cake, and many more.
She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life Arvel Shelton, whom she married in 1947. She continued to wear her wedding ring for the 17 years between their respective deaths, taking her last breath with it still on her finger.
Pauline was also preceded in death by her children, Verna June Shelton, Debbie Crowe, and Clark (Connie) Shelton, her grandson, Keith Lyons, her parents, Elmer and Alma West, her sister, Janice Stivers, and her son-in-law, Lawrence Haskell.
She is survived by her two children, Kathleen “Kathy” Haskell and Tim (Carol) Shelton, her sister, Terrill McNulty, her grandchildren, Des Sparrow, Chris (Beth) Lyons, Thomas (Jana Hovland) Haskell, Jordan (Jaye) Shelton, Lucas (Jenna) Shelton, Justin (Shelby) Shelton, Logan Shelton, and Madelin Shelton, her devoted caregiver and dear friend, Lisa Lilly, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends that have become family.
The visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Owenton on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at 11 a.m. The funeral will immediately follow at 2 p.m. New Funeral Homes are overseeing arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Pauline would wish for donations to be sent to First Baptist Church of Owenton.
