Owen P. Ashcraft, Sr., 87, of Owenton died Monday at the Owenton Manor. Born November 20, 1921, he was the son of the late Elmer and Grace Hicks Ashcraft and was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Stewart; grandson Donald Patrick Ashcraft and siblings, Roy Melvin Ashcraft, Lauretta Judy and Bessie Mae Smith. Owen was a retired school bus driver for Owen County Schools; the owner of the former Ashcraft Service Center; was a mechanic for both the Ford and Chrysler dealerships in Owenton and also did lawn mower repair. Owen was an avid outdoorsman, loving fishing, hunting and raising rabbits, He is survived by his wife of 65 years Pearl Criswell Ashcraft; three sons, Owen Ashcraft, Jr. of Carrollton, James Wesley (Linda) Ashcraft of Jackson, TN, Arlin Wayne Ashcraft of Louisville; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. . Arrangements are being handled by McDonald & New Funeral Homes where family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, with Bro. Jesse Bourne officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ashcraft Family. Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery.
