Oscar Wilson Wyrick, Sr., age 84, of Owenton, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born April 5, 1937, in Corbin, KY, he was the son of the late James William and Mary Wagers Wyrick. He was also preceded in death by his son, Oscar "Buck" Wyrick, Jr., and his son-in-law, Mike Saradjian. Oscar previously lived in Lexington and Orlando, FL. In the 1960s he worked for Martin Marietta Corporation as a missile assemblyman making missiles and antiaircraft guidance systems for the military's Pershing Weapon System Project. He lived in Owen County for 52 years, where he worked as a farmer, raising cattle and horses and auto mechanic. On January 14, 1967, he married Nora Wilson Wyrick and together raised seven children, six daughters, and one son. He was also a huge University of Kentucky Wildcat fan, especially football and basketball
He will be deeply missed by his wife of over 55 years, Nora Wyrick; his daughters, Brenda Saradjian, Linda Marston, Betsy (Mark) Steele, Amy (Steve) Jones, Karin (Chris) Duvall, and Tracy (James) Skinner; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and his sister, Lona (Frank) Bowman.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Friday, February 11, 2022, from 11 am until 1 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with burial in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choosing.
