Nancy June Castle

Nancy June Castle, age 70, of Owenton, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born February 3, 1951, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Myrtice Weisner Barbare. Mrs. Castle was also preceded in death by her brother, Allen Barbare. She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church of Owenton and devoted 33 years to the Owen County School Systems as a third grade teacher. She was an avid reader who enjoyed cooking, sewing, and raising flowers. Most of all she enjoyed caring for her family and being "Gammy" to her nine grandchildren.

She will be missed by her husband of nearly 48 years, Delmas Castle; her daughters, Susan (Joshua) Samples, Julie (Brian) Smoot, and Mandy (Matt) Parker; her grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, and Maggie Samples, Easton, Houston, and Braxton Smoot, Lyla and Talon Wilson, and Hattie Parker. She is also survived by her sister, Patti (Geoff) Walker and a host of extended family and friends.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Friday, March 5, 2020 from 11 am until 2 pm for a pass-thru visitation. Masks and social distancing are required. Funeral services, with limited seating, will follow at 2 pm with Rev. Richard Miles presiding.  Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church of Owenton.  Live stream is available here .
