Melvin Duvall, age 89, of Owenton, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
Born October 29, 1930, in the Sweet Owen Community of Owen County, he was the son of the late John and Lula Parker Duvall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Anne Perkins Duvall and his siblings, Grace Stonestreet, John P. Duvall, Adele Bowyer, Sybil Lusby, Morris Duvall and Hugh Duvall. Melvin served his country in the United States Army and received a Purple Heart and was a member of the Royal Springs Baptist Church in Georgetown where he was a Deacon. He was a lifelong farmer and a real estate broker, he also worked for Ashland Oil and was a security guard for several years at Elk Lake. He loved music and playing the guitar and harmonica.
Melvin is survived by his long time friend and companion, Joy Belle O'Banion; his children, Vickey (Bryan) Duvall Wittenbarger, Michelle (Jeff) Duvall Perry, Phillip Wayne Duvall and Leslie Todd (Marti) Duvall; his grandchildren, Jennah Rhea and Kelsey Anne Wittenbarger, Grayson Duvall Wittenbarger, John Tyler Perry, Mallory Raine Perry, Zachary Ryan Miles, Kennedy E. Duvall and Jackson T. Duvall; his great grandchildren, Tyrus Jay Perry and Reed Noel Ison. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma Spaulding.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 10 am til Noon. Funeral services will follow at Noon with Bro. Danny Duvall and Bro. Roger Alford presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery with Military Honors.
