Melinda Kay States

Melinda Kay States, age 46, passed away Monday, July 20th, 2026.

Born March 4th, 1980, in Lexington, she was the daughter of Virgil Odell McKinney and Linda Gibson McKinney. Melinda was a member of Resolute Christian Church in Campbellsburg, Ky and was dedicated to her faith. She was a homemaker for most of her life and found the most joy in caring for her family, especially her grandkids. Melinda found pleasure in the simple things, she appreciated a good shopping spree, loved to fish, and to travel. One of her favorite places in the world to go was to St. Augustine Beach in Florida, where she would spend her days lounging and swimming in the ocean.

Melinda is survived by her loving husband, Vernon States; children, Jessica (Matthew) Brooks, Stephanie McKinney, Tyler Tharp, and Christopher Tharp; her grandchildren, Emmett Frazier, Korbin Frazier, Elijah Frazier, Liam Allen, and Rowan McKinney; siblings, Natasha (Anthony) Martin, Jackie (Beulah) Gibson, and Joseph (Candace) McKinney. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Levi Scherder.

Family will welcome friends at the Main Street location for visitation on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, from 10:00am to 12:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 pm with Bro. Billy Spegal presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Resolute Christian Church Food Pantry.
