Mavis Gibson Jones

Mavis Lee Gibson Jones, age 88, of Owenton passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Georgetown Community Hospital.Born June 15, 1929 in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Lillo Burford Gibson.  She was the widow of Howard Linden Jones and also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.  Mavis worked for Dr. Scholls, Fruit of the Loom and eventually retired from Schlumberger.  Mavis loved being outdoors and farming alongside her husband.  She especially enjoyed mowing hay and growing flowers.  She was a devoted member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church where she was the former treasurer.  Mavis was also well known for her delicious macaroni and cheese.Mavis is survived by a host of family and close friends.McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 10am until 2 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Bro. Steve Delaney presiding.  Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to Beech Grove Baptist Church or Bluegrass Hospice.
