Mary 'Laverne' Brown

Mary "Laverne" Brown, age 75, of Sparta, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born June 30, 1940 in Smithfield, KY, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Flora Tinsley Ritchie and was preceded in death by her siblings, Floyd Ritchie, Louis Ritchie, Jr., Donnie Ritchie and Dorothy Ritchie. Laverne was a member of the Park Ridge Baptist Church and worked in production for many years at General Electric. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Ed Brown; her sisters, Barbara Turner, Betty Ann Ritchie and Etta Parks; her brothers, Charles (Shirley) Ritchie, Arthur Lewis (Ruth) Ritchie, Willie Lee (Valerie) Ritchie and Frank (Margaret) Jordan. Laverne also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Family Worship Center in Carrollton on Monday, October 26, 2015 from 5-9pm. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday at the Family Worship Center with Rev. Terrance Moore and Rev. W.M McElvaney presiding. Burial will be in the Carrollton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to Park Ridge Baptist Church.
