Marietta “Mommietta” Collins Wheeler, age 92, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Care Center in Florence. Born January 26, 1919 in Nicholasville, she was the daughter of the late Boyd and Mary Edith Halfhill Collins. She was the widow of William Joseph “Bill” Wheeler and was also preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Collins Lane, Private, Paul Harold Collins and Boyd Viley Collins. With her husband she owned and operated Wheeler’s Fine Food and was a member of the Long Ridge Baptist Church. Surviving are her son, Richard Paul (Diana) Wheeler of Cincinnati; her daughter, Billie Jo (Donald Ray) Landrum of Walton; two brothers, Charles Vernon “C.V.” Collins of Nicholasville and Ralph Lovell Collins of Daytona Beach, FL; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one step great grandson; and two step great-great grandchildren. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Friday, December 23rd from Noon-1pm. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Pastor, Sean Carper presiding. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Lexington. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
