Lucille G Covey

Lucille Gordy Covey, age 84, of Sparta, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.

Born March 1, 1938, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Stella Lusby Gordy and the widow of Merle Covey. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Frankie, Zeda, Mae, Betty, Birdie, Christine, and Billi Ann. Lucille worked for several years at the Jonesville Rest Home as a nurse's aide and cook.  She and her husband owned and operated Covey's Auction and Covey's Sporting Goods. Lucille enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially her favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. Being outdoors, fishing and gardening brought her great joy and she rarely missed an episode of COPS. Her greatest pastime was spending time with her grandchildren who she affectionately called her 'babies'.

Lucille will be missed by her children, Sylvia (William) Devers, Marvin Ray Wynn, Phillip (Shelia) Wynn, Debbie (Tom) Addington, Ervin "Butch" (Jenny) Covey, and William "Billy" Covey; grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Brian, Eric (Deanna), Dustin (Lindsay), Cheryl, Ashley, Amy, Tracey (Josh), Dale, Josh, Matthew, Darren (Savannah), Hayley, and Connor; several great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; as well as her sister, Peggy, and Bonnie.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  On Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Seminary Street location, there will be a brief viewing beginning at 11:30, followed by a 1 pm graveside service in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Dry Ridge. Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier will preside.
