Lou Ellis Scruggs

August 13, 1920 — May 18, 2019

Lou Ellis Scruggs, age 98, of New Liberty, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.

She was born August 13, 1920, in Owen County, to the union of Archie and Emma Gayle Brown.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Scruggs, her daughter, Barbara Johnson of Louisville and sister, Ebe Lynn Bond of Cleveland, OH. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an devout member of the New Liberty Second Baptist Church until the end. She loved her church and working in her church. She attended and graduated from Lincoln Institute. Her interest included family, gardening, sewing, reading and she loved watching Kentucky Basketball games and The Cincinnati Reds. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her husband and mother.

Lou Ellis leaves to cherish her memory, her children, George Scruggs, Gwen Scruggs of Columbus, OH, Ernest (Biddie) Scruggs, Jr. and William H. Scruggs of New Liberty; one granddaughter, Sheree Powers of Smyrna, GA; two great grandchildren as well as a host of extended family and friends.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends at the New Liberty Second Baptist Church on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 11am until 1pm. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Rev. LaRoy Brooks presiding.  Burial will be in the New Liberty Second Baptist Church Cemetery.
