Mr. Laurel David "Pete" Smith, age 99 of Owenton passed away Sunday April 12, 2015 at the Owenton Center, Born January 12, 1916, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Grundy and Lora Gayle "Susie" Toole Smith. He was a dedicated husband to Mary Kingkade Smith and then Dorothy Shelton Smith, who both preceded him in death. Also preceding his were his step-daughter and son in law, Freda (Roy) Prather and his siblings, Tom Smith and Laverne Jump. Pete was retired from General Electric, was a farmer and a guard at Elk Lake Shores. He was a member of the Long Ridge Baptist Church and attended Cedar Hill Baptist church. He was devout in his faith serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and reading and studying his Bible. Pete was also an avid gardener who loved cooking, canning and blessing others with the fruits of his labors. Surviving are his daughter Terri Smith Bennett and her husband Michael of Loveland OH; his grandchildren, Michael Bennett, Jeanette M. Hannon,; step-grandchildren, David Prather and Nancy Prather Boisseau; a special nephew, David Lilly as well as nieces and nephews, Peggy Williams, Joyce Tuggle, Ronnie, Johnny Bob and Jeff Jump and Marty, Jeff and Debbie Lilly. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Monday, April 20th from 10am until 1pm. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Owenton Center - Activities Fund.
