Kenneth Ray Wainscott

July 15, 1940 — September 26, 2022

Kenneth Ray Wainscott, aged 82 years 2 months, of Hesler, Kentucky, left his earthly body at 5:02 am on Monday, September 26, 2022, after a courageous and determined battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was surrounded by his children, at his passing, and one, or more, of his children had been faithfully by his side for nearly two months prior, which is not a testament of his children, but rather of the father he was and the values he instilled within his children. Kenneth was born at his rural Owen County, Kentucky home, on July 15, 1940, to Raymond and Ruby (Prather) Wainscott (it should be noted: his momma was certain it was the 16 th ). He was dedicated to the Lord by his parents, and grew to be a devoted Pentecostal. His faith in his Heavenly Father, and of His savior's sacrifice and promise of eternal life, never wavered throughout his lifetime. He had received the gifts of tongues and interpretation, and found comfort in his private prayer language during his trying last days. He was a true prayer warrior; praising Jesus, trusting in God's sovereignty and goodness, and praying protection and comfort over his children, until the very end when he was granted his rest. His prayers, as with the prayers of his mother, will cover his children throughout their years. Even in death, he continues to provide.

Kenneth was raised up, the fourth eldest of eleven, in an inseparable sharecropping family. Everything they had came from God, through the land, by way of hard work, perseverance, and humble reliance on Him. Those treasured early years, the endured hardships and simple pleasures, instilled within him the values which molded him into to the man, and ultimately the father, that he became. Kenneth married Joyce Osborne, of Owen County, in 1960, and welcomed their firstborn son, Ricky Lynn, of whom he was so proud, in 1961. Their very awaited second blessing, Gary Allen, completed their family of four in 1964. When Kenneth married Teresa Hartman, of Frankfort, in 1975, he was blessed with his little “teddy bear”, Jarod Lee. In 1982, their daughter, Angela Rae, was born, for whom he sold his most beloved bull, No. 7, to pay hospital expenses (he always fondly remembered that bull, but felt he got a good trade). His first namesake, Jason Kenneth, arrived earlier than expected, in 1987, but surely felt love for the 12 hours he drew breath. Kenneth, and his father, carried him to his tiny grave they had hand dug; Kenneth made his marker, and maintained his resting place throughout his life; for his love as a father did not end even in death. Kenneth's second namesake, Kenneth Aaron, was welcomed in 1989; helping to keep him young, and full of hope and pride, throughout his aging years. Though his marriages did not endure, Kenneth always had great love and respect for his in-laws. He was always checking in on, and willing to lend a hand to, Bryant and Viola Osborne. He was a faithful son, and true friend, to his mother-in-law, Rosalie Hartman, for many years, until her passing. He always put others before himself, selflessly sacrificing so many of his wants to meet others' needs. He quit school in the seventh grade, to farm full time, alongside his dad, to provide for their growing family and to give his younger siblings a better life. He was devoted to God and family, was as honest as the day is long, and believed in telling the unfiltered truth. He believed in a good, firm handshake, and that a man's word meant something. While he never considered himself a smart man, he was immensely ingenuitive, and did mental math at an impressive rate. He was a naturally skilled farmer, mechanic, and carpenter. There was nothing he couldn't figure out, or fix, and he was always eager and willing to help &/or teach others. He farmed, in one capacity or another, throughout most of his lifetime. He also worked public jobs, as needed, such as Fruit of the Loom and Wainscott's Chevron, in Frankfort. Most notably, he ran his own business, Wainscott's Home Repair, and then maintained many yards in Owen County, for many years, before focusing on repairing mowers, which he did until well past eighty years of age. He had a relentless work ethic, and did not sit well. He was always up and moving, keeping his mind and body in motion, even in his “retired” years. He took pride in maintaining his home and yard, and had a green thumb for vegetables and flowers. His homegrown tomatoes always had the most flavor, and he always grew cucumbers for his children even though he hated cucumbers. He made the best cheeseburgers, fried chicken, and biscuits and gravy; skills he learned from his mother and passed along to his children. Noone ever left his home hungry, or in need, if he had anything to do with it. His last batch of biscuits were made with Bella Jane, great-granddaughter and joy to his golden years, just six weeks prior to his passing. Even in unfathomable pain, he desired to put his own wants and needs aside to pour love, and memories, in to the hearts of his children.

Kenneth never met a stranger, and proudly shared his testimony, and his faith, with any and all. He was the first to tell you that he was merely human, had made mistakes, and lived with regrets. His testimony was raw, and true, and often shared through tears and alongside song and prayer. He played guitar, and lifted his strong voice, to many hymns and southern gospel songs, in churches and nursing homes, and at many funerals of family and friends. He was brought up a member of the old Hesler church on Greenup Rd, just a hundred feet or so from where his home sits. He moved to the new/current church, which his family and his beloved pastor and friend of over 60 years, Rev. Delbert Price, helped construct. He later followed Bro. Price, in his evangelical callings, to various churches throughout Kentucky. In the 1980's, he settled at Leestown Gospel Church, in Frankfort, where he was devoted in musical ministry, and raised his children, for many years. He later attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, in Pleasant Home, alongside his treasured uncle and friend, Roy Prather, Jr. It was while in attendance there that he formed an everlasting bond with Rev. Dale Adkins; they sang many songs together over the years. Feeling a calling back to his home church, in his later years, he rejoined Hesler Assembly of God, where he remained a member until the time of his passing.

Kenneth is survived by his children: Ricky Wainscott, Gary Wainscott, Jarod Wainscott, Angela Wainscott (Kevin Shields), and Kenneth “Aaron” Wainscott (Katie Martin); grandchildren: Benjamin Wainscott (Mandy), Samuel Wainscott (Teresa), Michelle Wainscott, Alexandria Miller, and Haley Wainscott; and several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
