Juanita Leake Dougherty, age 94, of Owenton, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
Born September 15, 1926, in the Cedar Hill Community of Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Edward and Lillian Locke Leake and was preceded in death by her son, Mark Edward Dougherty, and her siblings, Dorothy Chandler and Roy Leake. Mrs. Dougherty was a 1944 graduate of the Owenton High School and obtained her business degree from the Lousiville Business School. While in Louisville she met the love of her life, David Franklin Dougherty and they married on July 21, 1951. They returned to the Cedar Hill Community and raised tobacco and cattle on her family farm. Along with her husband she owned and operated Owenton TV Service for over 50 years. She was a devoted lifelong member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School clerk and held the role of treasurer into her 90s. She loved music and served as the church pianist and sang in the choir. She played her piano until just a few months ago.
Juanita is survived by her husband of 69 years, David Dougherty; her niece, Lisa Chandler Meadows; her great-nephew, Benjamin Meadows, and her beloved church family and community friends.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Cedar Hill Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, from 11 am until 1 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with Bro. Bill Allen presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions are suggested to the Cedar Hill Baptist Church.
