Joyce Ann Cooke, age 70, passed away at the UK Hospice Care Unit in Lexington, KY, on Monday, March 14, 2022
Born on August 29, 1951 – Passed away on March 14, 2022. She was born August 29, 1951, the daughter of the late Neal and Vola Richardson Short of Frankfort, Ky. She was married on February 14, 1992, to Paul Gaines Cooke of Owenton, Ky. Together they joined their families. They were married 30 years on Valentine’s Day this year. Joyce was retired from Bendix Factory in Frankfort where she was employed for 34 years.
Joyce loved to paint, draw, work puzzles, sew, and play with her cats. Especially her recent one of 5 years named Shelby after her granddaughter who gave it to her. Joyce and Paul loved to camp with other family and friends, go antique shopping, watch TV game shows, go to the movies, and take trips to spend time together. They were best friends and were each other’s rock. She loved her family, friends, and especially her sisters-in-law whom she spent lots of time together. She was a devoted Christian to her Richland Baptist church family. She was a caring, generous, loving, supportive, family-oriented, beautiful woman, inside and out.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Neal Short Jr and Ronnie Short, and her granddaughter, Carolann Mitchuson.
She is survived by her husband Paul Gaines Cooke, her children: Eddie Green Jr (Stephanie), Angie Deakins Manley (Jake), Frances Covington (Terry), Paula Sanders (Clark), April Cooke Richardson (Chad), and Ginger Davis (Tater). Her grandchildren: Mat Green, Brittany Savage (Justin), Kerri Newby (Hayden), Allison Deakins, Terry Covington, Jr., Griffin Covington, Andrew Mitchuson, Daelynn Dunn, Shelby Bruener (James), Kristina Ueltschi (JP), and Paul Wayne Davis (Taylor). Her great-grandchildren: Jax Green, Ainsley, and Braden Savage, Jewelya Newby, Collin, and Dakota Wilson, Parker and Mya Davis, and coming soon Memphis Gaines Cook in July.
Her siblings are Janice Brewer (Danny), Eva Haynes, Charlotte Brophy (Franklin), Connie Andersen (Helge), Tammie Stamper (Mark), and Chris Short (Donna). Sister-n-Laws: Nancy Criswell (Mark) & Rosie Davis (Carl) & as well as a host of nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Richland Baptist Church on Saturday, March 19 th . from 11 am-1 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with Bro. Tom Hall officiating. Interment in the Monterey Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Richland Baptist Church Youth and children fund.
