Joyce E. Atha

Joyce E. Atha, 63, of Monterey, died January 20, 2010 at the University of Kentucky, Chandler Medical Center. Born November 3, 1946, in Frankfort, KY, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Carrie Francis Snow Cook. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Julia Hedden, Carlotta Rearden, Bill and Charlie Cook. Mrs. Atha was a member of the Monterey Baptist Church and attended Old Cedar Baptist. She currently worked for the State in the Revenue Dept. and formerly worked at Fruit of the Loom, Genesco Shoe and H. K. Porter. She is survived by her husband Washington “Cig” Atha Jr. whom she married on November 14, 1970. Also surviving are her son, Ray(Gina) Jesse of Frankfort, daughters, Dana(Lee) Burke of Monterey and Evelyn Atha of Owenton, sisters, Lou Boler of Frankfort and Helen Johnson of Dallas, TX, brothers, Leroy and Bobby Cook of Midway, grandchildren, Kirby Dale Rowland and Leslie Alexandra Jesse. McDonald & New Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 23 at 2pm at the Main Street location with Bros. James Bondurant, Ken Underwood and Larry Gaines officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 9pm. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Monterey Cemetery.
