Johnny Hammond, age 75, of Owenton, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023 at his home under hospice care.
Born February 17, 1947 in Owen County Kentucky, he was the son of the late Albert Hammond, Sr. and Climmie Rice Hammond. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Albert Jr. and J.D.
Early in his life, Johnny was a farmer, but for most his life he was a trucker. He was a long distance over-the-road truck driver for many years. He was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church, the Owen County Sportsmen Club, and a former member of The Good Guys Club of NKY. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, UK basketball, and visiting with friends at Family Billiards.
He is survived by his fiancée, Eartha Prather; four daughters, Lenny Stokes, Shelbyville, Penny Whitaker, Versailles, Amy (Charles) Humphry, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Angela Mann, Dry Ridge; a step-son, Kenneth Farley, a step-daughter, Teresa Bell; twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary (R.C.) Swigert and Nellie Smith; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 10 am until the funeral service at 2 pm with Bro. Craig Howard presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to the St. Elizabeth Hospice Program.
