John Morgan Smith

John Morgan Smith, age 82, of Frankfort passed away at his home May 16th, 2014. Born October 15, 1931, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Herbert and Eula Cobb Smith and the widower of Margaret Lucas Smith. He was preceded in death by his siblings, H.T. and Howard Smith, Doris Kemper, Mary Brooking, Jean Rosselot and Ruth Glass. John was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and retired purchasing agent for the Department of Finance for the Commonwealth of KY. He attended First Baptist Church of Frankfort and was a member of the Mt. Vernon #14 Masonic Lodge in Georgetown. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his daughters, Deborah (Wayne) Griffin of Oldham County and Angela (Bob) Criscillis of Frankfort; his granddaughters, Rebecca (Keith) Bell and Stephanie Samaro; his great granddaughters, Ava, Isabel and Carmen; his nephews Howard L. (Christine) Smith, Gary T. (Karen) Smith and his nieces, Mary Kay (Billy) Duncan, Jean L. (Bill) Gatto, Cathy (Mike) Bordas and Joan M. Piggotte. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Tuesday, May 20th from 11am until 2pm. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Rev. Truett Cocanougher officiating. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Homes of Shelbyville or the Frankfort First Baptist Church.
