John W. Porter

John W. Porter, age 86, of Owenton, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 19, 2020, surrounded by his family.

Born October 21, 1934, in the Harmony community of Owen County, he was the son of the late Morris and Birdie Mae Wiley Porter.  John was married to Elisabeth Margie Platt Porter in 1956, she preceded him in death in 2017, after 60 years of marriage. He served his country in the United States Air Force for over 22 years and graduated with a science degree from KY Business College in Lexington in 1979. He served the Owen County community as vice president of Farmers Bank for over 15 years.

John will be missed by his daughter, Deborah Elaine Lowery and her husband Perry Lee of Ardmore, TN; and his grandsons, Jason Lowery and Sean Lowery.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, from Noon to 1 pm for a pass-thru visitation. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier presiding. Limited seating will be available. Burial will be in the Stamping Ground Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
