John A. Coleman, Jr. age 70, of New Liberty passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.John was born on January 16, 1948 to the late John A. and Viola E. Coleman and was raised in Chester, South Carolina (Fairfield County) along with his 8 siblings. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Purity Baptist Church where he served as a faithful member. John received his formal education in the Fairfield County Schools. After graduating from McCorley-Liston he was then drafted into the United States Army to serve in Vietnam. After leaving the Army, John migrated to Cincinnati, OH and it was there he met the love of his life. On June 17, 1974 he was united in holy matrimony to Mary Jacquelyn Scruggs and to this union was born one son, William Tyshawn Coleman. After settling into their home in New Liberty and attending Second Baptist New Liberty, John joined the workforce. He worked construction at Markland Dam in Warsaw, KY, General Motors in Evendale, General Electric in Frankfort and Louisville and what is now known as Jones Plastics. John worked until his health began to fail him.John loved fishing, playing cards, going to the boat and traveling. He enjoyed life to the fullest.John was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sallie; two brothers, Willie Lee and Tony James and two nephews, Tremayne and Dan Tavious Coleman.Celebrating his life and mourning his passing are his wife of 43 years, Jackie; his son, Tyshawn; two sisters, Ann (Donnie) Lyles of Blair, SC and Deborah (Melvin) Jackson of Raleigh, NC; his God Sister, Tecola (Larry) Rucker; three brothers, Charles Coleman, Whitmire, SC, Joe (Laural) Coleman of Richburg, SC and Danny (Mary) Coleman of Rock Hill, SC; his aunt, Ada Feaster; ten nieces, five nephews and a host of extended family and friends.McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at Family Worship Center, Carrollton on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at the church on Saturday at 1 pm with Rev. La'Roy Brooks presiding. Burial will be in the New Liberty Second Baptist Cemetery with Military Honors.
