John William Burton, age 80, of the Hesler community of Owen County, passed away, Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. Prior to coming home to be with family, John has spent the last year under the care of Owenton Manor staff.
He was born March 27, 1940, in Owsley County, to the late Robin and Lizzie M. Gabbard Burton. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Edward, George, and Cletus Burton, Leola Helton, and Shirley Knoff; and two grandbabies and one great grandbaby who were too perfect for Earth. John was a devoted and amazing mason, a career he began at the age of 23. He was a member of Hesler Assembly of God and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who valued faith and family above all. He also enjoyed horseback riding, camping in the mountains, fishing, and attending southern gospel singings all over the state.
He is survived by his dedicated wife of 61 years Clara Mae House Burton; his children, Sharon Prather, Fay (Randall) Johnson, Ulanna (Jonathan) House, Laretta Burton all of Owenton, Lisa (Butch) Brewer of Frankfort, Reva (Brian) Record of Logansport, IN and Bryan (Basha) Burton of Harrison, OH; twenty-one grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Sarah Cummins, Debra Gates, Dee Burton, Kay Martin, Donna Deeter, and Eldern Burton, all of Indiana.
John left an impression on every person who met him and his legacy will live on through his family.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Logan and Michael Wainscott, Justin Prather, Marcus and Weston Record, Tristen, Lee, and Joseph House, and Keenan Anderson. Honorary bearers will be Kase Wainscott, Chaz Roland, Connor and Owen Drennan, Ethaniel Scott, Jordy Coslet, Archie Record, and Grayson House.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Hesler Assembly of God on Friday, December 18, 2020, from 4 - 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at the church on Saturday, December 19th at 1 pm. Masks and social distancing are required and a limited amount of guests will be admitted at a time. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to Hesler Assembly of God or Owenton Manor Activities Fund.
