Joe Ancel Palmore, age 59, of Frankfort, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, surrounded by his family at the UK Hospice Care Center. Joe had a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
He chose to fight it in his own way, the same way he lived every single day of his life. He found God again and made peace with the things we hold on to in life that shouldn’t matter. He spent every day trying to make sure that his family would be ok. He visited with family and friends and loved them all as it was his last day.
He was born September 6, 1963, in Glasgow, KY, the son of the late Colonel, Ralph Lewis and Patty Lou Carter Palmore. Joe, known as Jody, to his earliest friends and family, will be remembered for his work ethic. His work life started as a talented welder with Ornamental Iron and Hotwork. Some of his best work still stands at Gainsborough Farm. In 1987, he began work for Overnite Transportation (UPS Freight) as a trailer mechanic and worked his way up to Shop Supervisor, where he retired with 32 years of service. In his retirement, he worked part-time for the City of Frankfort in the Parks Department.
He was married to his wife Julie for 36 fun-filled, glorious years. His passions were crappie fishing, boating, camping, woodworking, and being with friends. He could fix anything and if he couldn’t, he would learn. He was very involved in the lives of all his nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly. To know him was to love him. If he was your friend, it was for life, and unconditional.
He was a father to Jessica, his only child, and his pride and joy. Her husband TJ was like a son to him and their children Tyler and Ella gave him so much joy. He was a little brother to Kathy and Greg. Kathy was his best friend and protector. A day never passed that they didn’t speak. Greg was his welding inspiration. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law, Judy (Vearl Pennington) Maynard; his nieces and nephews, Eric, Kyle, Ashlye, Samantha, Jacob, Adrianne, Kyle, Alex, Andrew, and Grant; his beloved dog, Jack; as well as a host of extended family, friends, ad co-workers.
He was the kindest, most selfless man. He helped strangers without hesitation and was the best tipper. The world will be a little less bright without him and will miss him without knowing why. We are certain he is on a lake in heaven with his Mama and Daddy, with a crappie pole in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
