Jerry Stewart

Jerry Stewart, age 96, of Owenton, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born November 14, 1924, in Owen County, he was the son of the late John F. and Lucy Anderson Stewart.  He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Tina, Frances, John T., Jasper, and Samuel. He served his country in the United States Army. Jerry was the oldest member of the Hesler Assembly of God where he also served as a former Sunday school superintendent and trustee.  He was a lifelong farmer and was the sexton of the Owenton Cemetery for many years. Jerry enjoyed Tuesday trips to the Richwood flea market where he would hunt old tools and hammers to add to his collection. In his later years, he took great pleasure in watching Gaither Homecoming videos and westerns. He will be remembered as a loving husband, Pop, Daddy, PJ, and Popaw Jerry to his family.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Stella Greenup Stewart, with whom he celebrated a 68th wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day; his daughters, Pat (Gary) Gibson and Sheila Stewart; three grandsons, Chris (Regina) Gibson, Kevin (Erin) Gibson, and Daniel Herr; seven great-grandchildren, Micah, Malachi, Jordan, Hayley Beth, Ethan, Anna Kate, and Sadie Claire.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, from 5 - 8 pm for a pass-thru visitation.  Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, at Hesler Assembly of God.  Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery with military honors.
