Janice Smoot

Owenton – Janice Smoot, age 74, passed away Monday, August 30th, at her home. Born June 21, 1936, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Harold Ray “Pud” and Eunice Bishop Ayres and was also preceded in death by her husband Charles Smoot and her brothers Don and Doug Ayres. Janice was a retired cafeteria worker for the Owen County High School and a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Faith Rebekah Lodge #123. She is survived by her son Greg (Laura) Smoot; her daughter Melissa (Terry) Gaines, both of Owenton. Two grandchildren, Kathryn (Matt Tate) Gaines and Rebekah Gaines and two step grandsons, Josh and Joey Snow also survive. McDonald & New Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location on Wednesday, September 1 from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday September 2 at 11am. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; the American Heart Association or the Owenton Christian Church Building Fund.
