James "Petie" L. Hill

James L. "Petie" Hill, age 77, of New Liberty, KY was born on February 23, 1946 to the union of Stanley and Hattie Mae Sanders Hill who both preceded him in death. Petie was peacefully called home by the Lord on December 16, 2023 at the Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, KY. Petie was also preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Delores Nevels Hill and their first born child, Timothy Lee Hill.

Petie accepted his faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of the New Liberty Second Baptist Church. He mowed the church yard for many years. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his yard and flower beds. He worked many years at Arvin Industries in Columbus, IN where he would stay through the week and come home for the weekend. He also worked at M&T Chemicals and later put in 27 years at the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator for the State Highway Department until he retired. In his free time, he loved listening to the Blues and,  attending the W. C. Handy Blues Festival in Henderson, KY. He had a great love for the outdoors, fishing hunting, and working in his flower beds. He was always ready to invite family and friends over for cookouts, fish frys, and barbecues. Petie's fantastic BBQ sauce recipe will also be missed!

Petie leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Leeann Hill Foree; son, James Brandon Hill; grandchildren, James Odell "Odie" Stone, Alexis Copeland, Jordan Pelfrey, ZaRiah Hill, ShaMiah Hill, Tristin Hoskins, and River Hoskins; great-grandson, Waylon Pelfrey; and his siblings, Emma Jean (Richard) Thomas, Stanley (Debra) Hill, Jr., and Cathy Maxine Hill.

New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends for visitation at the Main Street location on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 4 - 8 pm.  Homegoing Celebrations will be held at 11 am on Saturday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Michael Nevils presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, one of Petie's favorite charities.
