James Leonard Payton

James Leonard Payton, 78, passed away Wednesday, February 10th, at the Baptist Hospital-East in LaGrange, Ky. Born August 3, 1931, he was the son of the late Bennie Payton Sr and Tonnie Bailey Payton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sadie M. Wiley Payton. James was a member of the Cove Hill Baptist Church and worked as a mechanic. He is survived by three sons: Jimmy Payton (Pam) of Bedford, Ky, Danny Payton (Glenda) of Campbellsburg, Ky, Johnny Payton of Campbellsburg, Ky; four brothers: Bennie Payton Jr. and George Payton of Milton, Ky, William Payton of Pendleton, Ky, Floyd Payton of Louisville; and three sisters: Ida Chilton of Milton, Ky, Lucy Roberts of Carrollton, Ky, and Martha Williams-Cook of Buffalo, Ny. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Keith Cox, James Cox, Sadie Nicole Cox, April Cox, Corey Payton, and Casey Payton; one great grandson: Jameson Cox; and three step grandchildren: Benjamin Towensend, Melissa Morales, and Josh Louden. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 14th, from 1pm until 5pm at the Graham-Dunn Funeral Home in Carrollton. Funeral services will begin Monday, February 15th, at 1pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Carrollton I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Cove Hill Baptist Church located on Hwy 55 in Carrollton, KY (41008).
