James “Jim” Ralph Haynes, age 90, passed away March 20, 2016 at his home in Owenton, Kentucky. Jim was born March 27, 1925 in Lee County, Kentucky; he was the son of the late James Harvey Hanes and Elizabeth Shoemaker of Norwood, Ohio. Jim was better known as “Ralph” by his parents and siblings. Jim was preceded by his first wife, Wanda L Trusty Hall (Jul 2, 1987); his second, wife Clara Barnickle Jones (Oct 14, 2015); a son, James Robert Haynes; one granddaughter, Tiffany Bowers; one great granddaughter, Colleen Gillespie; and six brothers and three sisters: Henry Raymond Haynes, Silas Ranie Hanes, William Rexel Hanes, Lillian Reva Haynes (King), Roy Hanes, Ruby Mae Hanes (Waters), Robert Melvin Hanes, Eugene Rayborn Hanes, and Renetta Jane Hanes (Marrs). He is survived by a daughter; Wanda Langdon (Kerry) of Cincinnati, OH; a son, Richard Haynes, of Tampa, FL; one sister, Madgelee Moore (James Dallas) of Norwood, OH; and a step daughter, Rose Marie Adkins (Ralph); two grandchildren: Candi Gillespie (David), and Jennifer Rosenwald (Jeff); seven great-grandchildren: Erin Bowers, Danielle Gillespie, Elizabeth Schweinefus, Sheena Schweinefus, Wyatt Thatcher, Elena Thatcher, and Zachary Rosenwald; Three gr-gr-grandchildren: Cheyenne Schweinefus, Elijah Schweinefus, and Ethan Schweinefus; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and extended family. Jim joined the army at the young age of 15 and served as a Medic in WWII attached to the 10th Evacuation Hospital in the Papua Campaign - New Guinea. He was a decorated soldier with medals that included a bronze service star. Following the war, Jim worked at RCA in Cincinnati for many years until it closed, then worked at Sherwin Williams in Carthage until he retired. He was active in union leadership at RCA and loved talking politics. Jim moved to Owenton in 1982. He and his wife Clara were members of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Owenton. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, sports and his family. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.
