James Madison "Matt" Elmore

James Madison "Matt" Elmore, age 87, of New Liberty passed away Monday, August 13th at the New Horizons Medical Center. Born October 1, 1924 in the New Liberty Community of Owen County, he was the son of the late James Madison and Janie Brock Elmore. Mr. Elmore was a tobacco farmer, had worked for the Brite Lite Tobacco Warehouse in Carrollton as a buyer and office personnel. He was also a devout member of the New Liberty Christian Church where he was church treasurer until two years ago. He served in that capacity for 70 years. Surviving are his wife Helen Louise Mylor Elmore; his nieces Sharon Konermann and Mary Beth Raque of Louisville; his cousin, Betty June Gayle Lusby of Owenton and his brother in law Joe Mylor of Warsaw. McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street funeral home on Thursday, August 16th from 11am to 2pm. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Bro. Jim Woods presiding. Burial will be in the New Liberty Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the New Liberty Christian Church.
